An opportunity for everyone

My name is Amrit and I am a freshman at Princeton University. Kids here at Princeton have varying interests and it's great to see such diversity. I am specifically interested in a subset of data science applied to the field of sports known as sports analytics. Sports analytics uses data in order to elicit informed decision-making benefitting the team for the plan of winning it all.

Many research fields require a lab and in-person field work which can increase transportation expenses and lead to issues with time. However, with sports analytics, with a functionining laptop, you can download computing environments and use the free data that's already available. I have done all my projects with exclusively free data and you can create informed models out of them, whether it is for soccer/football with FBRef data or any of the American sports. You can learn the programming languages through free tutorials online.

Anyone can pursue this field with only two things: a passion for sports and a passion for math. There are no restrictions on its opportunities and your portfolio can be amazing with free resources.
